Marketing Grants
Twenty grants totaling $71,000 were awarded to 20 individual schools for the first time
this year. This support spread the good news in Catholic education through new brochures,
local advertising campaigns, and even new signage.
Strategic Partnerships
CSF has also formed partnerships with several local agencies that serve many of the same
students and communities, including the Boston Ballet, which hosted a CSF night at one of
their May performances, and Facing History and Ourselves, which is working on a Social
Studies curriculum with several schools, including the Pope John Paul II Catholic Academy.
High Schools
- 32 schools received over $2.8 million in grants this year
- The first year of our matching grant program infused over $1 million in new scholarship funds into the system
- New program grants also provided greater leverage for schools, as shown by Notre Dame High School in Lawrence which turned a $50,000 CSF grant for a college counselor into over $100,000 in new funds
- Eight of the all-girls’ high schools joined together with CSF on a marketing campaign to increase awareness of the benefits of an all-girls’ Catholic school education.
Elementary Schools
- 57 schools received over $2.7 million in scholarship grants
- These grants accounted for over 80% of the total number of ICSF scholarships
- In addition over $100,000 in emergency funds were distributed
- The vast majority of these funds went to support families who had suffered job losses during the school year
2010
- The 2010 has been leading change in the Archdiocese by regionalizing schools and reconfiguring the governance structure
- Pope John Paul II Catholic Academy opened in September 2008 after eight parish schools reconfigured to become one school with five campuses in Dorchester and Mattapan
- Over $1.2 million was granted last year to Pope John and the two other schools involved with the 2010 effort: Trinity Catholic Academy in Brockton and St. Ann’s in Gloucester
- Pope John also received a $100,000 grant to launch the Verizon Thinkfinity program, an online resource to enhance teacher and student effectiveness in mathematics
Counseling
- CSF launched a partnership with Boston College this year to incorporate the Boston Connects Model into the counseling program
- Boston Connect is a nationally recognized program that addresses the non-academic barriers to learning by connecting each student with support services through a network of community agencies
- 16 schools took part in the program and CSF funded positions in 13 of those schools
Marketing
- In partnership with the new leadership at the Catholic Schools Office, CSF gave a grant of $50,000 to support the first stage of a comprehensive marketing campaign for the elementary schools
- Entitled “Catholic Schools: Smart students. Great kids.”, the campaign aims to show the statistics that support the success of Catholic education
Hispanic Recruitment
- Thanks to the generosity of a long time donor CSF now has a scholarship fund that is targeted towards increasing Hispanic enrollment in the greater Boston Catholic schools
- Erika Banwarth was hired to manage the program in October 2008. Erika was formerly Director of Admissions at North Cambridge Catholic High School
- In the first year, 26 students were recruited with an average scholarship of $1,835 each
Professional’s Team
- Two of the major fundraisers for the Professional’s Team have been restructured to support special projects at selected schools
- The Back to School Cup proceeds awarded a grant of $27,545 to Sacred Heart in Roslindale to upgrade their computer lab
- The Glimmer Gala proceeds awarded a $15,000 grant to St. Patrick’s in Lawrence to support year-end emergency tuition funding for several families who had suffered job losses
