The 7th Annual Back to School Cup
The 7th Annual Back to School Cup, held on September 8th at Hopkinton Country Club, drew
record numbers of 124 golfers and a net proceed of $45,000 to benefit the Inner-City Scholarship
Fund (ICSF) and a new computer lab for the Sacred Heart School in Roslindale. Guests were greeted
by students from the Sacred Heart School handing out golf balls and t-shirts. Highlights from the
day included a pre-golf lunch and 18 holes of golf followed by a dinner and an awards presentation.
There was also a silent auction that ran throughout the day and a live auction during dinner. Adam
Rand, Todd Weaver, Dan Rand and Mike Cornell outbid all of the other foursomes for a chance to play
2 holes with hometown hero and former Red Sox player, Lou Merloni.
Generous sponsorships totaling over $28,000 helped to raise the bar on this year’s event and
surpass last year’s proceeds. We give special thanks to our Presenting Sponsor, Suffolk Construction,
and two Luncheon Sponsors, Millennium Records Management and Mintz Levin Cohn Ferris Glovsky &
Popeo P.C. Additionally, our gratitude goes out to all of our other sponsors: Jere and Melissa

Mike Reardon, Executive Director of the Catholic Schools Foundation, along with Steve Popeo and Eric
LaPlaca presented a check to Sacred Heart's Principal, Monica Haldiman for their brand new computer
lab. Attendees were treated to student-led tours of the school, visits to classrooms and the opportunity
to interact with students in grades Pre-K through 8. Also on the tour were the school’s brand new computer
lab, its art room and the school library. Afterwards, guests convened in the school gym for lunch, where
Sacred Heart student's choral group impressed their audience with a performance of their school song Keep
Kindness in Your Hearts.
Special thanks goes out to co-chairs, Eric LaPlaca and Steve Popeo, as well as the entire golf
