The Catholic Schools Foundation hosted its annual Back to Class Bus Tour on Wednesday May 26, 2010, visiting one of the 89 schools supported by its signature program, the Inner-City Scholarship Fund (ICSF). Over 50 donors and friends of the ICSF attended the Back to Class field trip to Cathedral High School (CHS) in Boston’s South End, to observe first-hand how their support of the ICSF helps to transform students’ lives.
Guests were treated to student-led tours of the school, followed by a lunch in the cafeteria with their tour guides. School Headmaster Tom Arria and Principal Christol Murch, welcomed guests and highlighted some of the recent successes of CHS students, success stories which would be impossible without the generosity of donors to the ICSF.
In the 2009-2010 school year, the total enrollment for CHS was 253 students. 199 of these students qualify for the subsidized federal lunch program. Mike Reardon, executive director of the Catholic Schools Foundation, shared that 111 students at CHS received ICSF scholarships. Chairman of the ICSF, Peter Lynch, thanked donors for investing in the formula for success that Catholic schools provide and told guests, “it might be the best investment you make all year.”
